Global Bioeconomy Summit · Virtual conference

For the third time after 2015 and 2018, in November 2020 the Global Bioeconomy Summit took place. Due to the Corona pandemic the event was completely virtual – a great challenge as people from all over the world participated.

In order to provide space for exchange amongst participants in total 12 workshops took place from November 16 to 18. They were followed by two days of live streaming plenary presentations and debate.

Dr. Susanne Iost of Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics participated in organising one of the workshops: „International policy instruments and governance of the bioeconomy and circular economy”. Together with Tévécia Ronzon she moderated one of its break-out sessions. Both scientists work on monitoring approaches on the national or EU level and are in regular exchange on monitoring bioeconomy. Together with workshop participants, main barriers and risks of bio-circular economy as well as strengths and weaknesses of monitoring and scenario tools to support policy and governance were discussed.
