The Thünen Institute of Forest Genetics maintains more than 500 field trial sites in Germany and Europe. These trials are used to test the suitability of trees of different provenances and different families in forest operations. We observe tree survival and the susceptibility to pests and diseases, as well as growth dynamics.
We use the results to advise practicing forestry enterprises on the suitability of site adapted provenances. The data will later be used to give retrospective evidence of the adaptability of different provenances under climate change.
