Press Tour for international journalists in October 2017

As part of the “German Science Year 2016*17 - Seas and Oceans”, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invited a delegation of international journalists to a press tour focusing on Germany’s marine research. This one-week excursion through northern Germany – from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea – included visits to various research institutes and universities that are engaged in marine, polar and coastal research, including a stopover at our Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries in Hamburg.

Journalists received a brief introduction to our institute, the European Common Fisheries Policy and the fisheries science that serves to advise policy and management, and were additionally invited to debate with our experts in order to gain further insight into the practical work conducted in our laboratory facilities.

Overall, it was a great event with enthusiastic participation from both sides, stimulating questions and diverse impressions, as well as the establishment of new interesting contacts to international media and journalists.

The press tour was a part of the initiative to “Promote Innovation and Research in Germany” which was launched by the Federal Ministry of education and Research (BMBF).
