Farming is just for men? Forget it! One in three workers in agriculture is female. However, their importance for farms and social cohesion is often underestimated. From everyday work in the stable and on the field to bookkeeping, direct marketing, and farm management - women are an integral part of farms. They also manage the household, childcare and, not infrequently, caring for their parents (in-law)
In order to make the role and situation of women in agriculture tangible, the Thünen Institute of Farm Economics and the University of Göttingen surveyed more than 7,000 female farmers across Germany. Photographer Anna Tiessen visited and portrayed some of them.
In the exhibition Frauen.Leben.Landwirtschaft. you can see the impressive portraits of the women, together with selected results of the scientific study. The accompanying photo brochure presents the project and the women portrayed.
Opening hours: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 to 16:00, on selected weekends and by appointment (pressestelle@thuenen.de).
