At the Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries a fixed-term position starting 01.03.2021 until 31. December 2024 as

a scientist (m/f/d)

is to be filled in the working area Forest and Society for the project ‘Green Jobs’.

The Thünen Institute is a Federal Research Institute in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL). Its task is to develop scientific decision support for politics and to expand knowledge for the benefit of the common good. The working area of forest and society examined and assessed the costs and benefits and on the other hand, the sustainability of the multiple benefits of forests.

Tasks:

  • Systematically analyse definitions, structure and development of green jobs in Europe’s forestry sector
  • Analyse importance of green jobs in the forestry sector for the economy as a whole and rural areas in particular
  • Identify chances and barriers for the promotion of green jobs
  • Develop proposals to enhance attractiveness of green jobs
  • Provide scientific support and give advice to the Forest Europe Liaison Office Bonn regarding green jobs
  • Publish scientific papers

Technical/functional skills:

  • University degree (univ.-diploma/M. Sc.) forestry or related disciplines
  • Experience and knowledge of European forestry sector is desirable
  • Knowledge of relevant statistics and scientific methods in the field of social sciences is desirable
  • Experience in preparation and communication of scientific results for policy support is desirable

Personal skills:

  • Operational readiness, flexibility, teamwork and resilience
  • Goal-oriented and independent way of working
  • Ability to analyse and present complex scientific issues
  • Excellent command in spoken and written German and English
  • Readiness for regular and extended business trips

The salary is based on the collective agreement for civil service (TVÖD). Depending on the fulfilment of personal and tariff requirements the salary is conform to level E13 TVÖD. In general, part-time employment is possible.
