Scientist (f/m/d)

The position includes the possibility to work on a PhD thesis and is limited to a fixed term of three (3) years starting 01.02.2021. The temporal contract-limitation is based on § 2 (1) S. 1 Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz.

The Thünen Institute is a Federal Research Institute in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL). Its task is to develop scientific decision support for politics and the science to develop to expand knowledge horizon for the benefit of the common good. The working area of forest and society examined and assessed the costs and benefits and on the other hand, the sustainability of the multiple benefits of forests.

Tasks:

  • Development of scenarios on the societal effects of the implementation of international climate policy instruments as a basis for interdisciplinary and cross-group cooperation, for example in issues of land use simulation, wood market modelling, etc. as well as derivation of policy recommendations
  • Contribution to scenario modelling as well as analysis and presentation of results
  • Publication of scientific papers

Technical/functional skills:

  • University degree (diploma/M. Sc.) forestry or related disciplines
  • Experience and knowledge of German and international climate policy of the forestry and timber sector is desirable
  • Experience in developing policy-relevant scenarios in the forestry and timber sector is desirable
  • Understanding of complex scientific modelling techniques is desirable

Personal skills:

  • Operational readiness, flexibility, teamwork and resilience
  • Goal-oriented and independent way of working
  • Ability to analysis and presentation of complex economic and scientific issues
  • Excellent command in spoken and written German and English
  • Readiness for business trips

The employment is governed by the Wage Agreement for Public Services (TVöD-Bund). The payment of remuneration is carried out according to tariff-category 13 TVöD. In general, part-time employment is possible.
