Job offers of the Thünen Institute
The Thuenen-Institute of Sea Fisheries of the Johann Heinrich von Thuenen-Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, is offering a full-time position for the next possible date for a
Scientist working on the structural development of German coastal fisheries (f/m/d).
The Institute of Sea Fisheries conducts research on ecological and economic issues of fisheries. The advertised field of activity belongs to the research unit Economic Analysis (see "Research Profile of the Thuenen Institute of Sea Fisheries", https://www.thuenen.de/en/sf/fields-of-activity/economic-analyses/).
The newly created position is to
- analyse the development of economic structures in German coastal fisheries,
- estimate and evaluate future structural developments (also in terms of regional added value),
- develop political options for action and evaluate their potential influence on future structural development of German
coastal fisheries.
This requires an interdisciplinary, integrative approach that incorporates the competences of different disciplines of the Thuenen Fisheries Institutes in Bremerhaven and Rostock as well as the socio-economic Thuenen-Institutes in Braunschweig.
Small scale coastal fisheries are a form of fishing that creates identity for entire coastal regions, whose future is threatened by numerous developments: Declining productivity of important fish stocks due to climate change; loss of fishing grounds due to the construction of offshore wind turbines; designation of large marine protected areas; stricter legal requirements for the operation of the often over-aged German coastal fishing vessels. The newly created position is intended to analyse policy options to steer structural developments in socially desirable directions, to open up good future prospects for coastal fishing and to increase its (direct and indirect) contribution to regional value creation.
We are looking for a personality who can contribute his or her ideas and skills to the development of this field of activity and who will take over the Institute's policy advice tasks in this area.
