The Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, in Hamburg invites applications for a fulltime position in the working area forest products markets as
Scientist (m/f/d)
with focus on international forest and wood products market modelling (ID 2020-42-WF).
The position is limited to a fixed term of three (3) years and is to be filled as soon as possible. The position offers the opportunity for further development of scientific occupational skills with the possibility to pursue the Doctorate. For the doctoral graduation, the Thünen Institute collaborates with a number of universities. The fixed-term employment is in accordance with §2 (1) 1 of the German Temporary Science Employment Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG).
The Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics is currently further developing an economic and dynamic global forest products market model (GFPM). The adapted GFPM simulates production, consumption and trade of roundwood, sawnwood, wood-based panels, pulps, cellulose based materials as well as paper products and waste paper for 180 countries. Main task of the position would be to refine the simulation of forest development in the economic model with the aim to adequate estimating roundwood supply in an economic model. The holder of the position will have the opportunity to qualify scientifically in econometrics, programming and modelling techniques.

Part-time employment is in principal possible. The employment is governed by the Wage Agreement for Public Services (TVöD-Bund). Salary is in accordance with category 13 TVöD.
