The Thuenen Institute of Sea Fisheries of the Johann Heinrich von Thuenen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, is offering a full-time position for the next possible date for a
Scientist with specialisation in hydroacoustics (f/m/d).
The Institute of Sea Fisheries conducts ecological and economic research on fisheries. The advertised position belongs to the research unit Operational observation systems (see https://www.thuenen.de/en/sf/fields-of-activity/operational-observation-systems).
The Thuenen Institute has access to three modern fisheries research vessels with state-of-the-art hydroacoustic equipment (EK80 broadband echo sounder, CS90 omnidirectional sonar) and has a number of mobile, stationary and autonomous echo sounders (WBAT, WASSP, ARIS) at its disposal. In 2023, a new vessel, Walther Herwig, will be put into service, along with additional multibeam echosounders and sonars (ME70, MES70). We are looking for an employee who can contribute her/his ideas and skills to the further development of the research area and who can take over political advisory tasks of the institute in this field. The scientific focus is to develop analytical tools for the processing of extensive hydroacoustic data sets, e.g. with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data methods.

The employment relationship is based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD). The payment of the remuneration is made when the personal and collective bargaining conditions are fulfilled up to remuneration group 14 TVöD. Later qualification for civil service is not excluded. Part-time employment may be negotiated.
