Scientist (f/m/d)

in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

The position is limited to a fixed term of two years and is to be filled by the 01.04.2020 until 31.03.2022.

The applicant will work in the third-party funded project “Rural Urban Nutrient Partnership” (RUN) with focus on environmental assessment. The aim of the project is to close nutrient and resource cycles between neighboring urban and rural areas, thus making a valuable contribution to increasing the resilience and resource efficiency of agricultural systems. The work is carried out in cooperation with other research institutions and in exchange with relevant stakeholders.

Job profile:

  • Carrying out LCAs of wastewater treatment processes and waste treatment of organic wastes
  • Comparing relevant processes and process combinations concerning nutrient recovery in a given regional context
  • Quantifying the emission saving potential and identifying of trade-offs in phosphorus recovery technologies
  • Carrying out LCAs of agricultural systems with recycled nutrients
  • Development of a regional circularity strategy
  • Preparation of project reports and scientific publications
  • Participation in the working group on sustainability assessment of biobased systems

Professional skills:

  • PhD in the field of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or sustainability assessment
  • Advanced knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment methodology and territorial Life Cycle Assessment
  • Knowledge in the field of material flow analysis
  • Experience in environmental or sustainability assessment of agricultural systems
  • Experience in the ecological evaluation of technological processes for waste water and waste treatment is of advantage
  • Flexibility, the ability to work in a team, the ability for interdisciplinary cooperation and personal commitment are required.

Personal profile:

  • Ability to analyse complex systems
  • Analytical thinking, goal-oriented working style, critical judgement
  • High level of motivation as well as good time management
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Good knowledge of the German and English language
  • Ability to present complex issues clearly and comprehensibly, both orally and in writing, for different target groups

The salary is based on the collective agreement for civil service (TVÖD). Depending on the fulfilment of personal and tariff requirements the salary accounts of level E13 TVöD. Parttime is possible.
