with focus on silviculture, forest management and restoration of tropical forests.
The position is limited to a fixed term of three (3) years and is to be filled as soon as possible. The fixed-term employment is in accordance with §2 (1) 2 of the German Temporary Science Employment Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG) .
The Thünen Institute of International Forestry is currently conducting the interdisciplinary research project Landscape Forestry in the Tropics (LaForeT, www.la-foret.org) together with partners in Ecuador, Zambia and the Philippines aiming at findings for science based policy advice to reduce tropical deforestation.
Deforestation and degradation of tropical forest landscapes often result in negative outcomes for the provisioning of important ecosystem services for different land-user groups. They also represent the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions during land-use and land-use change. Therefore, research at the Thünen Institute aims at the elaboration of comprehensive analyses of silvicultural options for tropical natural forests, restoration and reforestation derived from examples in Ecuador, Zambia and the Philippines.
