The biennial EuroTier in Hanover is considered the world's leading trade fair for livestock farming. The Thünen Institutes for Agricultural Technology and Organic Farming in Braunschweig and Trenthorst also presented their research activities at a joint stand.
The Institute of Agricultural Technology exhibited two full-scale livestock housing models, which were presented to interested visitors. In order to reduce ammonia emissions in ventilated dairy cattle sheds, a stall model with partial underfloor extraction was presented, which considers promising results by means of several flow simulations. Based on the second stall model, a piggery for pigs was exhibited with a local location system, where the movements of the model pigs could be followed live on a screen. With the localization of the animals, individual welfare should be objectively recorded and evaluated in the future. In addition to the stable models, visitors were able to obtain comprehensive information on further research topics on posters.
