At the end of October 2015, the Braunschweig member of the Bundestag visited Dr. Ing. Carola Reimann the Thünen Institute for Agricultural Technology. As a biotechnologist, she did her own research in this institute and wrote her doctoral thesis in the field of the material use of renewable raw materials.
Miss Dr. Reimann was impressed by the development of this field of work and the current research opportunities in the institute. If only four simple laboratories were available at their own research time, the laboratory space more than quintupled by the new, modern laboratories officially commissioned in 2014, now measuring more than 1,300 m². Even with regard to the technical laboratory equipment, much better conditions are to be found today.
Miss Dr. Reimann informed himself extensively about the current research in the Institute for the production of bio-based chemical products. She expressly welcomed the fact that institute research now extends to the entire value chain of renewable raw materials, because only in this way can a comprehensive assessment of processes and competent advice be provided to political decision-makers. There was general agreement that the material use of renewable raw materials as a core element of a future bio-based economy is more important than ever and that further, intensive research efforts are necessary. She wished the institute employees much success for the future.
