With the ratification of the Unites Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Germany has committed to report anthropogenic sources and sinks of greenhouse gases as well as stocks of soil organic carbon and of biomass (UNFCCC Art. 3.3, 4.1, 4.2 and decision 3/CP5.). However, there is no up-to-date and consistent data set of the content of organic carbon in agricultural soils in Germany. With the German Agriculture Soil Inventory, a consistent and representative inventory of the organic carbon stocks in the top 100 cm of agricultural soils is conducted for the first time.
