Stable Isotope Analysis Laboratory

The laboratory for stable isotope analysis is located within at the Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture. The facility supports the scientific staff at AK and is involved in numerous scientific projects and cooperations.

Areas of responsibility

Stable isotope analysis (δ13C, δ15N, δ18O, δ34S) as well as Isotopomer measurements (N2O):

  • C- and N- isotope analysis at natural abundance level as well as from tracer experiments; simultaneous determination of  C-and N-isotope abundance (δ13C, δ15N) in organic and inorganic solid samples using EA-IRMS
  • Determination of S-isotope abundance (δ34S) in solid samples at natural abundance level as well as from tracer experiments by means of EA-IRMS
  • Analysis of  N-, O- and C-Isotope abundance (δ15N, δ18O, δ13C) in atmospheric trace gases (esp. N2O) at natural abundance and enrichment levels using coupled  PreCon-GC-C-IRMS
  • C- and N- isotopic composition of gaseous samples (δ13C, δ15N) at both natural abundance and enrichment levels by means of Gasbench-IRMS coupling

Development and amelioration of analytical processes used for the determination of stable isotope abundances (main focus: N2O; N2) and analysis of N2O isotopomers

Support of planning and realization of research conducted using stable isotopes either at natural abundance level or as tracers
