Jungfuchsmarkierung auf der Insel Rügen

The oral immunization of foxes against rabies has a significant influence on the dynamics of fox populations. The eradication of rabies caused in large parts of Germany to a strong increase in fox populations. Since the middle of 2000th spreads additionally the raccoon dog with rapid speed.

Background and Objective

The knowledge of Habitat exploitation and population dynamics provide an important basis for the development of management concepts and strategies for animal disease control measures. The establishment of a monitoring system on the island of Rügen provides ideal conditions for this long-term study.

Target Group

Approach

The studies of the dynamics of the fox population on
the island of Rügen began in 1988.The aim was to get a marked sub-population by live trapping and marking of numerous fox pups. Annually in late April was carried a complete mapping of fox holes of the island and additionally
a periodically a live trapping and marking of the young foxes. For catching was used the "Eberswalder
