With Headquarters in Braunschweig, the Thünen Institute comprises 14 specialist institutes and additional joint service units.

We cooperate nationally and internationally with universities and other research organisations and are engaged in training scientists. The course “Wood Science” is offered in cooperation with the University of Hamburg. We also maintain close collaborative relationships with BMEL's other Federal Research Centres.

The Thünen Institute is a Federal Research Institution (Ressortforschungseinrichtungen des Bundes).
